Special conditions for bike and kayak rentals

Rental conditions – Swike AB (cycle)

The renter accepts the bicycle in good condition and undertakes to return it in the same condition. The bicycle shall be used in accordance with applicable Swedish laws and the following conditions:

  • The mechanical parts of the bicycle must not be adjusted or tampered with.
  • The code of the auxiliary lock must not be adjusted or tampered with.
  • Bicycles should be parked safely, with consideration for pedestrians and in places where the risk of theft is minimal (e.g. avoid dark alleys).
  • The bike must be returned on the date and time specified in the rental agreement. Late return will be charged according to the conditions below.*
  • The renter is responsible for any loss or damage to the equipment, which always remains the property of Swike AB. If the bicycle is lost, destroyed or irretrievably damaged (at the discretion of Swike AB), the renter undertakes to compensate Swike AB at full replacement value. The compensation fee is determined by Swike AB and is charged upon return.
  • The renter is responsible for the bike throughout the rental period and should have valid travel or home insurance that covers bike theft. In the event of theft, the value of the bicycle will be charged by Swike AB. The tenant must then make a police report and contact their insurance company.

Late return
If the bike is returned on the same day but after the agreed time, a fee corresponding to a daily rate will be charged. Return after the agreed date will incur a fine based on the number of extra days the bike is rented.

What happens if my bike is stolen?
If your rental bike is stolen, you should report it to the police immediately – this is required in order to receive compensation through your insurance.
Swike AB will charge you the value of the bike. You then use the receipt to file a claim with your insurance company. The excess you pay is usually around SEK 1 500. It is therefore important that you have travel or home insurance that covers bicycle theft. You can file a police report via www.polisen.se.

What happens if I don’t have Swike protection (e.g. in case of a puncture)?
If you have not purchased the additional service Swike Protection, we will try to help if we have time. Emergency assistance, e.g. in the event of a puncture, costs from SEK 500 depending on the location.

Rental conditions – Swike AB (Kayak)

The renter accepts the kayak in its condition and undertakes to return the equipment in the same condition. The equipment shall be used in accordance with applicable Swedish laws and the following conditions:

  • The mechanical or safety-related parts of the equipment (e.g. pedal racks, rudders, canopies, lifejacket buckles) must not be tampered with.
  • The kayak should be handled carefully and paddled in a way that takes into account the weather, surroundings and others on the water. Equipment should not be left unattended in public places.
  • The kayak must be returned on the date and time specified in the rental agreement. Late return will be charged according to the conditions below.
  • The tenant is responsible for any loss or damage to the equipment, which always remains the property of Swike AB. In the event of loss, vandalism or serious damage (according to Swike AB’s assessment), the tenant undertakes to compensate Swike AB corresponding to the new value. The amount of compensation is determined by Swike AB and is charged upon return.
  • The hirer is responsible for the equipment throughout the rental period. It is important to have valid travel or home insurance that covers damage or theft. In the event of loss, the value will be charged by Swike AB. The tenant must then report the loss to the police and contact their insurance company.

Late return
Return on the same day but after the agreed time will be charged at the same rate as the basic rent. Return after the specified date will be charged per extra day according to the current price list.

What happens if my kayak is stolen or damaged?
In the event of theft or serious damage, you must report it to the police immediately. This is required in order to receive any compensation from your insurance. Swike AB charges the value of the equipment and you use the receipt to make a claim to your insurance company. Normally the excess is around SEK 1 500.
Remember that your travel or home insurance should cover theft or damage to rented equipment. Police reports can be made via www.polisen.se.

What if I don’t have Swike Protection? (e.g. in case of problems on the water)
If you have not chosen to add Swike Protection, we will try to help if possible. Emergency services, for example in the event of a puncture or the need for collection, cost from SEK 500 depending on the location.
