Day 1 – Views, forests and lakes
You will arrive by car or other transportation to Gränna (transfers from train, plane or bus can be booked separately). We start with an information session to go through the itinerary and demonstrate the navigation app.
Fill your thermos with coffee or tea and gather your lunch bag before you start your hike. The hike starts uphill on Grännaberget and continues along Holavedsleden. Your luggage will be transported to your first accommodation. The trail is well marked and the app provides maps.
Today’s walk takes you through landscapes that inspired John Bauer’s art. The day ends at Smålandsgården by Lake Ören, where you have dinner and the opportunity to swim or book a sauna*.
*Booked on site subject to availability.
Day 2 – Through open fields and deep forests
After breakfast, pack your lunch and follow the Aneby Trail along Lake Ören.
A recommended stop is Björkenäs nature reserve, a perfect place for a break or a dip in the lake.
The hike continues through hilly terrain to the top of Gräsberget (320 m.a.s.l.) and down to the village of Vireda.
You will spend the night at Wiredaholm Golf & Conference, hosted by Paul and Anna, who also speak fluent German. Dinner consists of a three-course meal, and you can opt for a Calvados tasting to try their special drinks*.
* Can be requested when booking.
Day 3 – Winding roads to idyllic waters
After a breakfast with lake views, you’ll recharge for a new day. At check-out, you will be given a hearty salad for lunch, which you will stop along the way to eat.
Today’s hike follows dirt roads through scenic landscapes where you will encounter horses, cows and sheep. Perhaps a deer will scamper across the road.
Along the way, you can visit the church in Vireda, a wooden church dating back to the 16th century. You will also pass several lakes before reaching Bauergården in Bunn in the afternoon.
Here you can relax with a sauna and swimming before enjoying their classic Småland Bauer menu – a three-course dinner made from local ingredients with a special touch.
Day 4 – Along the John Bauer Trail to the edge of Lake Vättern
Time for the last day of hiking following the John Bauer trail through forests and open landscapes. The paths wind through the deep forest and you follow roads through the Småland landscape.
After 11 km you can enjoy a fantastic view over Lake Vättern and down into Västanå nature reserve, with its beautiful beech forest – a perfect place for lunch.
Before arriving in Gränna, you will pass through the village of Röttle where we recommend taking a moment to explore the historic mills, waterfalls and harbor.
The evening is spent at Grenna Hotel, where a well-composed three-course dinner is served, prepared by their award-winning chef.
Day 5 – Memories for life
